Want to be part of a fabulous weekend and a great group of people?
Consider volunteering at the Serene Spirit Holistic Expo & Gem ShowSM.
Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to meet others who share the same interests as you and to soak up positive energy in an exciting environment. And don’t underestimate the experience as a way to add skills to a résumé.
Volunteers receive free admission to the Expo on the day they are volunteering. Simply sign in at the ticket-selling table (just inside the Exhibit Hall doors) any time after the Expo opens for the day, and then report to the same location 5-10 minutes before your shift starts. If you choose to volunteer for 2 or 3 days, you get in free and have access to the Expo for all the days you work.
If you are having a great time at the Expo, and would like to volunteer for additional shifts, please let the Volunteer Supervisor know. There are always last-minute cancellations from volunteers.
I'm interested!
To get started, download an application from the Volunteer Application link. Go ahead and apply right up until the end of September, although earlier is better!
Below is a list of volunteer opportunities and what each position involves. Shifts are 2½ to 3 hours. Supervisor shifts are longer (5 – 6 hours) for continuity and to train volunteers.
You can volunteer in more than one area and for more than one shift if you like. Please check back, as additional volunteer opportunities may be added.
Digital photographers
1 or more individuals per shift to roam the Expo, taking candid and posed photos, including photos of adopted animals with their new families. Have subjects sign photo release. Burn photos to CD or DVD provided by Expo & mail to Expo with prepaid envelope. Will get photographer’s credit if photos are used on the Expo web site, given to the media, or printed in any fashion. Photos become the property of the Expo.
Anytime 11 am – 5 pm. Check in exhibitors and provide info packet, help exhibitors with questions, to find their booth, to set up, assist Expo management with various set-up tasks, assist animal rescue groups as needed; a general potpourri of activity.
As many volunteers as possible! Completed before the Expo. Hand out flyers and discount admission coupons to friends, businesses, co-workers, club members, neighbors, the gas station attendant, grocery store clerk, bank teller, at church, school, PTA, your doctor’s or dentist’s office, hair salon, gym, everywhere you go! Spread the “white light” to everyone you meet!
Reiki I, II, or Master
Practitioners to clear, refresh, and provide healing Reiki energy at the beginning of each day to the Exhibit Hall and to individual booths if exhibitors request it, during healing ceremonies, and throughout the day to the adoptable animals to keep the animals calm and content. An exhibitor may ask you to lightly mist a booth (or the Exhibitor herself) with sage water to clear the energy. Volunteers will be provided simple directions on how to do this if it is new to you.
Sunday tear-down
5 – 6 pm; Help to gather up materials, take down signs, help exhibitors or animal rescue groups. Fairgrounds does heavy work to tear down booths, draping, etc. after exhibitors leave.
Ticket sellers/hand-stampers/information table
3 – 4 people per shift. Two will sell admissions from a table just inside the doors of the Exhibit Hall. A third person at the table will stamp everyone’s hand, welcome people to the Expo, and answer general questions, such as where the restrooms are, the animal booth locations, etc. Someone is also needed to encourage people to sign up for a mailing list and to fill out a checklist of possible workshops topics they would be interested in. Experience working with money and making change is desirable, but not mandatory. Jobs can be rotated during the shift.
Volunteer supervisors
1 – 2 people per shift. Check in volunteers. Provide orientation and training for each shift of volunteers, provide name tags, tell/show them where to go, make sure staffing is sufficient, fill staffing holes, solve problems, answer questions, check on volunteers periodically. Train and oversee all volunteers except admission table.
